This is an introductory message about the closure of the footy tipping on Wil's Footy Page.

The site has been closed due to further legal action as described elsewhere. This forum will give users the ability to provide feedback. It has been piggybacked onto the bd4 site and as such all Fooy users (that are not bd4 players) will be posting messages under the user name "Footy".

If you did not get here via the footy site and wish to post messages either go there and log in first or login to this site.

Are you allowed to list the the teams without fixturing eg; 2005 Rnd 1 Brisbane St.Kilda Kangaroos Carlton Fremantle Port Adelaide Melbourne Essendon Sydney Hawthorn Adelaide West Coast Richmond Geelong Collingwood Western Bulldogs Simple theory list teams each week in fixture order so it's always; 1 v 2, 3v4, 5v6, 7v8, 9 v 10, 11 v 12, 13 v 14, 15 v 16, change the list each week to suit the fixture and email all registered users the code that will be used. Of course the example above is the simplest. If you are not allowed to use the team names because of copyright as I fear is the case, then they cannot prevent you from using simple coded names for teams. 1st Rnd example; B + ST = Answers simply 'H' for home team and 'A' for away team. K+CA = F + P = M + E = SY + H = A + WE = R + G = CO + WB = This is the simplest code of course I'm sure you can come up with something more suitable, this could be emailed to regular users and the comp could proceed in 2005. These symbols are not copyrighted and I don't see how the AFL could. I hope this gives you a few ideas. Regards Rob - email (tigerwolf58@hotmail.com )

I'm sorry to see the tipping competition has ceased to exist. It was imho, one of the best tipping competitions, just when it came to prestige of any I have entered. I don't see what the AFL has got to complain about, you didn't charge for it, and no members ever had to pay. Yet it seems my isp, my bank I deal with, etc, all have footy tipping competitions, but maybe they wrote letters. I don't know. The situation very much sucks, given you can always get fixture lists off the web or in the papers on a regular basis.

Anyways, all the best Wil, I'll definitely miss your competition, and also your full season in advance ladder which was always a lot of fun. If nothing else, at least I can feel good about winning the back to back premiership during the time the comp was run :)

All my best mate. If you need petition support. I'll gladly add my name to the petition :)

Yours Sincerely,

Johno,

Thanks for your support and sorry I didn't invest more time maintaining things over the last few seasons. It's basically too late now (I should have got my shit together earlier). While I understand there are numerous ways around it (like linking to fixtures elsewhere and picking teams rather than game results) it's all very clunky and would not be accepted by most people ... meaning you'd only have the die hard fans and hard core tippers... and after a while numbers would die out.

Some suggest with Perth getting a super 14s team I should change the code of my site to stick it up the AFL.

Thanks for supporting the site and hopefully it (may) come in use for histories and stats. Again, I have too many hobbies and not enough time.

Wil
