Mon Dec 15, 2003 4:52 pm Post subject: Major new release: 16th December 2003 |
|
|
There will be a major new release made on the 16th of December mainly to allow people to play a number of new level sets. It has followed many months of preparing levels which are good, form well structured level sets and provide good challenges for obtaining high scores.
This release will be incomplete (otherwise it may never happen and players like Dirkimops and asarkila will be forced to wait indefinately for the new levels. Some of the features will be added over the next few weeks or months. These include the new Java version, the level page, the offline tools and the recordings/hints/challenges pages. Other things such as the final two level sets and the online level editor will come later.
The new release will be available from the downloads page for Windows (installer) and Linux (Debian package or tar-ball).
Happy playing. |

Okay, so I'm testing the forums now they are live. Anyway, the feedback was
Quote (shockedfrog): | checked the BD4 page today and noticed the news (yippee!), but the
downloads are still old versions. I'm guessing I maybe caught you in the
middle of updating the site, but I figured I should let you know just in
case :)

I was going to add the "midday GMT" message to the front page .... seems I was too late.
Still hoping for earlier than midday GMT |

Good to see the return of the official BD4 forums! The BD4 forums on www.shockedfrog.com/forum/ never got a single post :( but that's probably since hardly anyone found the site in the first place, except for Dirkimops and Equin0x :) Anyway, with the release of all these new level sets, I'm planning on bringing back my BD4 site soon although this means a lot more work in making the international listings - one for each level set could take a lot of time to make and would need a lot of updates, and I'm too lazy to update sites regularly.
I like the page redesign since it's not TOO different from the old look - seems to load faster too, since the image links got removed - and hopefully all this new stuff will attract new players to BD4.
Yeah, it was about 1:30 am over here when I checked the site, so I figured I'd have caught you at a 'I've only just woke up, let me update the site in peace' time :) |

sorry for double posting, but I added a www.shockedfrog.com/gaming/bd4/ link inside URL tags, and it seems to have just disappeared. Weird.
Any chance of enabling the 'edit' button? |

I will add an edit button but am off my feet at the moment with two work projects and a big party to finish planning and preparing for (Saturday). Oh, and then there's Christmas. I tell you what, this bd4 release being made is a big relief.
More importantly I've just release a minor fix to the new version. It seemed that in my make file I had the following line:
Quote: | cp ../../live/levels/9.levels bd4/data/9.levels |
This meant all releases had the wrong levels for the forest set, as was pointed out to me
Quote (shockedfrog): |
Good work on the new version - the Tropical levels look like they'll be
great for new high score challenges. I see level set 9, Forest, is
included with the game, and some people got scores on it, but I can't
access it in BD4.
|
So, all versions were missing the level set. You could actually play by pressing "play" off the web page which fired up your bd4 game (.bd4 scripts) and loaded the level. Since the level file was not recognised it got the level from the server. It seems all games played got the level from the server.
My mistake, but fixed now. |

is there a demo or something of fruity caves available yet? I saw it on Blitzcoder ages ago and still want to play it, but I'm guessing it's nowhere near finished yet? |

Sorry ShockedFrog i didn't read your post until today.....been to busy playing BD4...lol....the game is finished......i am just waiting on my brother to finish the interface gfx.....i am eagerly waiting it to.......and thats just the initial release.......i would also like to add the internet highscore feature like this as it is pretty darn good....Wil's done an excellent job.....Wil's made BD4 an exact match for emerald mines regarding timing movement, score etc.....Fruity Caves isn't going to be a perfect match, it will be very similar though, and of course the gfx are completely different...as soon as i have any decent news of a working version for the public i'll let you all know......... |
