I was just wondering ... what would it mean if the word 'random' from 'random rock pushing' was dropped?

At the moment a rock is pushed in such a way that the first successful push can occur 'on the fly', that is the rock is pushed as if it wasn't there, right ?

After that there is at least one wait tick between each successful push, right?

If so, doesnt that mean that the random factor could be removed by changing rock pushing to 'first-push-immediate-wait one tick-push again-etc' without screwing the high scores, with this I mean that there couldn't be a high score that was faster than the new 'first-push-immediate-wait one tick-push again-etc' -method?

Of course there is the problem of being a disadvantage to the old players but why couldn't this game evolve ? Those players are going down on the high scores anyway. Why drag old mistakes with us like we are Microsoft or something?

With these weak arguments I ask you Wil, is this even possible to implement and what problems do you see with this ? When you say no, at least try to convince me why it would be a bad thing. Personally I think random rock pushing is totally unnecessary and annoying feature which only eats away some of the playing pleasure of this great game. I'm not at all against random bug and alien movement but random rock pushing is useless. Of course this applies to bombs too.

What do others think ? I think seb wouldn't mind this at all.

I'll keep it in mind. I have no time at the moment (as you can see by my lack of playing) and I'd much rather get back some high scores rather than develop (for a while). In fact I'd rather get out more and get more sleep!

In terms of issues... the recorded game issue is one, but I could add a version and not allow old games to play back new recorded games. Also, I actually like it for most levels ... e.g. an alien is chasing you and you survive if you get a bit of luck with the rock push. It's only really an issue with people going for crazily optimal scores (such as level 7 where I'm clearly obviously stuck - I rely on 3 rock pushes for by 3 ticks off top score).

Again, I'll keep it in mind. The Java version getting back on line after 2 years away is probably a higher priority ... and the web pages ... and me getting number one back for a little bit!

Ok, you have good points, real life over playing over developing. I understand your resources are limited and you should use your time with bd4 on playing since we miss your high scores.

I've been a pretty lazy player myself lately. Just tried to give some half-assed resistance when seb and ruben took away my only number one rankings. They'll propably take them away easily. Good luck Wil with real life but try to squeeze a few high scores here and there :
