I see that Wil has been busy adding the "Play" option to many of the scores achieved by different players. I am impressed by Homelands level 0, but I will have difficulty emulating it. But it does show that there are many ways to skin a cat. :

What do you mean ? You mean that there are recordings available ?

Thanks for "reporting" that major bug!

Basically you should be able to see games that (a) you played (uploaded by you, someone else or emailed to me with concent to make available), (b) you uploaded, or (c) are public assuming you are up to that level. I'm not sure that the level check is enforced?? but this is not an issue until I develop the page properly and make sure things are correct before making games PUBLIC. This is one of the areas that does need development work to allow for a better community.

In testing and for the records (so I can store games on the web site for better access) I have uploaded all my top games (you can upload as a zip file, etc, and it will match to the games it thinks they are based on scores, times, etc). Fortunately these were not available. What were were the games I put into archive before I made the upload pages. These has an uploaded player ID of 0. You guessed it, this matched for players not logged in! : hence Thozz, while not logged in, could see a link in the high scores to view the game details as well as play back the game.

I've fixed the bug by changing the parameters into "pseudo-fast-join" part of the query below. The default pid for noone being logged in was 0, the currently logged in player for someone logged in. The old archieve has uploaded player IDs of 0. The default pid for not being logged in (on this page) is -1.

Quote:
(playerID=$pid or uploadedPlayerID=$pid or recordedGameType='PUBLIC')

And, before you try, I've fixed it on the page that serves the games so you can't just guess IDs and try to download the game! While I'm there I'll just check some other links to ensure the correct headers are sent so that Windows plays back the games (it uses URL name, content disposition which Microsoft made up and other stuff, ignoring mime types).

Sorry asarkila... again, there weren't my best games but probably gave away numerous methods or submethods. I will make many games PUBLIC when I have time. Obviously not all since this ruins the fun of finding new methods and would tend to make us all use the same methods single mindedly.... more testing/uncertainty leads to better methods and new high scores. Enough ranting. See you all in the scores. I have print outs of all the summaries (new page option) so will probably play some Mountains and Farmlands over Easter should I find any time.

Okay, some stats concerning recorded games on the site...

Quote:
select count(*) c,name,uploadedPlayerID from RecordedGames rg, PlayerRecord p where p.playerID=rg.playerID group by rg.playerID, uploadedPlayerID order by c desc;

The result

Quote:

| c | name | uploadedPlayerID |

| 475 | Wil N Wil | 1 |

| 121 | The K Man | 0 |
| 97 | PKWA | 0 |

| 1 | dandalong | 0 |
| 1 | Baz | 0 |
| 1 | Dirkimops | 8311 |
| 1 | Krrick | 0 |
| 1 | mason | 0 |

All the ones with the 0 in the right column were available from the original archives (people sent games to me). The others have been uploaded by IDs 1 (Wil), 486 (Wil N Wil), 1796 (I assume The K Man), 2917 (DREAM), 3960 (I assume codo), 4586 (I assume ruben) and 8311 (I assume Dirkimops).

Seems no games uploaded by asarkila. Maybe you'd benefit from just zipping up a slab of games and uploading them... in terms of recorded game management. Also note that this would have been "safe" with the existing bug that just failed because the uploadedPlayerID was 0 and matched "not logged in".

Lots to do....

You are absolutely right, bd4 is all about finding new/more effective methods and if the high score demos were available it certainly would ruin a big part of playing. But sometimes you would just like to have a peek if you know what I mean :

I first noticed the play option when I was surfing the high scores, but I didn't realise that I wasn't logged in until I tried to leave a forum message. I had been logged in for about 4 years until I cleaned out my internet files and cookies last night. At the time I didn't think much of it but after I logged in I could no longer see the play option. Still I was curious, so I logged out and bingo, the play option was back. It was close to midnight but I thought i'll have a quick peek anyway. I was really hoping for some clues to level 9 of Homelands, unfortunately they weren't forthcoming. (If anyone wants to provide some clues to that extra 100 points, please do as I am baffled). But as Asarkila points out, most of the fun is trying to work it out for yourself. For the chaotic levels (which are not my strength) I don't think that you can learn a technique from watching them, but it is good to have proof that the scores can legitimately be obtained. So I won't be racing up the rankings from watching Durand get 1123 on level 73. : Thozz

Hmm, I'm giving you a hint that you propably have noticed anyway.

Look at the exit times the top scorers have, the points for each object in the level and then figure out what they have gotten that you haven't. Then just try to figure out what the hell they did to get that object.(You are propably in this stage already) Still I think giving you the method wouldn't be as satisfactory to you as it would if you figure it out yourself.

If you still want more hints then I can propably give you something but I'm giving you a chance to figure it out yourself first. You know where to find me :

Level 13 has me baffled. I'm pretty sure (someone has proved via running "bd4 -t" to test the recording - it reports the score and time, etc) the scores there are legit, but I have NO IDEA how they got them. I guess something to do with blowing up many bugs in a chain reaction.

Level 9 had me for a while. I believe cusack was the pioneer here and it took me a while to come up with a play that worked. Hmm, I'm curious if it's the same as asarkila's for example. Of course there's no point showing each other our methods in case one is better than the other in which case the one with the weaker method will most probably gain the number one score.

Still, some games should be public.... but only the fun ones, second tier methods or funny ones.

I have no idea either how this is done. Amazing scores.
